Rachel once said very early on in the story that she was "afraid of the night"; this is a possible translation of Baam's name (along with chestnut). In this light, she doesn't so much hate Baam as she is afraid of him.
Baam confronts Rachel, admitting that he just can't understand her, and rebuking her when she claims to have done nothing wrong. He then attacks and completely overwhelms Rachel, and though he still spares her life, he states that he will kill her if she ever harms his friends again.
Rachel was given an ultimatum by Headon?if she could prove she could climb the Tower, he would allow it. This is why despite her seemingly powerless substitution, she was given a team that would balance out her weakness?a bodyguard and even a Princess of Zahard, Endrosi.
The story is too grandiose and epic to include romance. Sort of like how FMA only included romance at the very very end when everything was done. If anything, the story is slowly accelerating. On top of that, Baam's role in the tower is so huge that romance would be too "human" for him.
Most likely, not for quite awhile. If it makes you feel better this comic will almost certainly not be as long as One Piece. SIU has stated that there will be 4 parts to the ToG story, each focusing on different sets of characters. Part 1 ended with the conclusion of the floor 2 tests.

She doesn't die. And since she is an important character who knows about Baam's past, she won't probably die.
Rachel (??, Lahel/Rahel; "Rachel"), also known as Michelle Light (?? ???, Misuel Raiteu; "Michelle Light") is an Irregular and was Baam's best and only friend as she was the only one to visit him in his "cave".
Baam or also known as the 25th Baam is a Boy who is found outside the Tower and he serves as the Main Protagonist for the story. Baam is also Viole in Tower of God. After Baam goes to the tower in hopes of continuing to spend his time with Rachel.
