A Standard Sky box just needs one cable feed from the satellite dish LNB, but Sky+ and Sky+HD need two feeds from dish to box. Why is this? Well, the Sky+ box has two tuners (to allow simultaneous viewing and recording of different channels) and therefore two feeds from the dish are required.
Re: Go back to Sky HD
If it is within 30 days of the installation she can cancel and return to the previous set up, otherwise you will have to speak to Sky and see if they will let you change back, there is usually a substantial penalty if you just try and get out of the contract. Why Does Sky Q Need Two Cables? It helps to understand why your Sky Q box is not designed to work with a single cable. This isn't the case with the Sky Q box as it needs two satellite cables connected to a wideband LNB. This is because the two signals are not identical like with Sky+ and Freesat+.
To run Sky Q and normal Sky or Freesat at the same time off a satellite dish. You will need to instead of installing a wideband LNB, install a Hybrid LNB instead. Some of these LNB's allow you to connect the Sky Q box to any of the LNB outputs and others require you to connect to specific ones.
Sky confirms no satellite dish required from late 2018. The new plans will see the latest Sky Q TV service made available to customers without the installation of a satellite dish, with programmes instead delivered over broadband to a new set-top box.
Edit:A phone line is no longer required for Sky boxes, provided the box is connected to your internet router. This also applies to Multiscreen boxes if the Multiscreen subscription commenced after 17th December 2014.
Component (blue, green, red, white & red ) or AV (red, yellow & white) cable: Connect one end to the back of your box and the other end to an available Component/AV port (take note of the port name) on the back of your TV.
The Sky without a satellite dish service will be rolled out over the Sky Q service, which already utilises network cabling, WIFI and LAN's for their multi-room service.
Sky Q really shows its worth when you add in extra devices, including Mini boxes that you plug into other TVs in your home. These stream live channels, on-demand TV and recordings from your main box, giving you access to your full Sky Q package from around your home.
Yes you can, a working satellite dish will be able to receive Freeview via Satellite when used in conjunction with an approved Freeview Satellite Digital Receiver or Recorder. Note that the LNB (Low Noise Blocker, which is round or oval and sits in front of your dish) may need to be replaced / adjusted.
Sky Q main boxes will run with reduced service without an internet connection or a network connection but if you have Q minis there has to be a router running on the network as the Q boxes need that to handle IP addressing to work at all but again it does not require an external connection.
There is no RF out on the SKY Q box so this modulator was required.
You just need to connect your Sky box and TV with an HDMI cable, and change the input source to the socket you plugged it into. The aerial and satellite tuning options don't apply to your Sky Q box.
Re: First time sky Q installation
hI @RadiantSun81 The engineer will bring your SKYQ main box on the day of installation. You will need a Dish which the engineer will install on the day.If the LNB did require replacing sky would almost certainly replace the dish as the method of connecting the LNB to the dish has been changed, so the new LNB wouldn't fit the old dish. They'd probably replace it because the rust would stop them repositioning it also.
Re: Sky engineer wouldn't install Sky Q tv
They will not fix dishes on roofs they are limited to the height their standard ladder will reach. The coax may not have been the correct type, it may well work with Freeview but a different type of coax is needed for satellite.Sky Q & Sky Off Same Satellite Dish – Including Freesat
There are couple different makes and models but essentially, they have the same final result. You connect your Sky Q box to a couple of the LNB outputs, usually there are 6.Just a couple of cables that go to your main Sky Q box and all other TV's are then served wirelessly from your main Sky Q box. You can stop watching TV in your lounge and pick up exactly where you were in another room, perfect for when bedtime comes and you want to finish your programme in bed.

The answer is, unfortunately not. If you want Sky TV at all, normally, you need to mount the satellite dish on the roof or on the side of the house. None of this means you can have to kiss Sky TV or any other TV goodbye the moment you move into your loft, however.
When you have an existing Sky dish and upgrade to Sky Q you will need to replace the LNB. As Sky Q boxes only require 2 inputs from the LNB these LNBs are only Twin Out. Sky Q Multi-room boxes are connected internally to the main box via WiFi so a cable from the dish is note required.
Sky used to fit dishes on chimneys etc but these days they won't as @TimmyBGood says because of both for the safety of their engineers and for your safety of the chimney coming through your roof in a storm.

Your old Sky box will still work as a Freesat from Sky box to receive free channels on it, but you won't be able to pause, record or watch any old recordings on the box anymore. Alternately you can give it to friends or family who want a Freesat box, or sell it on eBay (don't expect to get much for it).
