And, to be fair, the remastered episodes of both The Original Series and The Next Generation are now available for streaming – on CBS All Access in the US, or on Netflix in the rest of the world (though I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon Prime Video snaps up the international rights now that they also have Star Trek:
The reasons are a bit complex. Although all of the first four Star Trek shows were shot on 35mm film, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager were all edited on videotape. The original Star Trek was shot and cut on film, so a high def restoration was possible early on.
Replay: The two Star Trek series Deep Space Nine and Voyager are still not available in HD. Both were shot on film and could be beautifully remastered in exactly the same way as the first two series produced under the Star Trek banner.
Why 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' & 'Voyager' Won't Be Released In HD Or On Blu-Ray. However, all three shows were scanned to videotape for editing and post-production because high definition televisions didn't exist and there was no point for shows to actually, you know, look good at the time.

Sadly, after “His Wayâ€, when Odo and Kira are finally in love together, they don't have much to do but have petty sitcom disagreements. We only truly care about them again when Odo is fatally ill in the finale arc, and Kira conceals that she knows he is sick, just as Odo conceals that he is sick from her.
They were long-lived compared to most humanoid species, and could easily live beyond 550 years.
Season 6 was arguably DS9's best as the series' Dominion War ramped up to deliver the darkest and most complex long-form story Star Trek had ever seen. Dax's shocking death came in DS9's season 6 finale, "Tears of the Prophets," when she was murdered by the series' greatest villain, Gul Dukat (Marc Alaimo).
The captain's uniform was designed by Robert Blackman to make Captain Picard stand out from the rest of his crew, at the suggestion of actor Patrick Stewart. [1] The creation of the jacket was prompted by Stewart raising complaints about how uncomfortable the standard duty uniforms were.
The DS9 uniforms were first used in the premiere episode, "Emissary" and would continued to be used up to the Season 5 episode, "The Ascent". Following the release of Star Trek: First Contact, the new gray movie uniform design also appeared in DS9's fifth season and for the remainder of the series.
While Picard seemed to switch between the standard duty jacket and the vest, Sisko was seen wearing it beneath his uniform, sometimes causing his uniform to seem quite bulky. The uniform seems to be the same style worn by the captain throughout the rest of the series, simply missing its cuffs and zipped all the way up.

Star Trek: The Original SeriesFor the third series, the costumes were made of nylon fabric similar to baseball uniforms -- because the previous velour versions shrank.
This means the first two seasons are set roughly 110 years before the events of The Next Generation, and roughly 100 years after the events of Enterprise. Here's the full breakdown: Star Trek: Enterprise (2151-2161)
In the early 2350s, the Starfleet uniform was completely redesigned. Closer in appearance to those in service during the late 2260s, the new Starfleet uniform spawned several variants, most notably in 2366, and inspired versions yet to come.
