When printer repair isn't worth it. Printers sometimes encounter mechanical failures and need to be repaired; that's almost a universal constant. But it may not always be the best choice. While spending $100 to fix a one-month old, $5000 printer makes sense, older printers should sometimes be put out to pasture.

Printer in error state
- If your printer's status displays "Printer in error state," there may be a problem with the printer itself.
- Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your PC by Wi-Fi or cable. Check it for low paper or ink, and be sure the cover isn't open and the paper isn't jammed.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then perform a Hard reset on the printer. * With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test document and check if it works.
Fill a small bowl with enough glass cleaner to completely submerge the bottom portion of your ink cartridge. Set the ink cartridge in the bowl with the print head facing down. Allow it to soak overnight. Return the cartridge to the printer, turn the printer on and run the automatic cleaning utility.

After replacing your printer's empty ink cartridge, the machine might not print correctly or at all. This often happens when the printer doesn't recognize the cartridge or "thinks" it's still empty. These problems are even more common if you refilled the empty cartridge yourself.
To do this, power down the printer and then unplug the power cord from the wall. Wait for a minute, then plug the printer back in and power it back up. Wait for the cartridges to center, and then try printing again. If your issue persists, you can also try resetting the printer to the default or factory settings.

From the window that opens choose “Printer” from the menu bar at the top. Select “Use Printer Online” from the drop down menu.
