Vanessa Redgrave and Lynn Redgrave were both nominated for Best Actress. This was the first time in 25 years that two sisters were nominated in that category (Olivia de Havilland and Joan Fontaine were nominated for Best Actress in 1941).

The musical adaptation called for a versatile young actress who was also an accomplished singer. "The Sound of Music" is much more: it had a higher budget, the crew was larger, it was more successful, it won more awards (although "Marry Poppins" had more nominations) and it's much longer. wonder which of the two soundtracks was more successful and loved.
