Roberts Bakery began as a grocery store, but one that sold freshly baked bread to the residents of Northwich in the heart of Cheshire. We're still based in the same lovely town, and our bakery is a local landmark.
Currently there are 40 bakeries baking Sunbeam bread and rolls across the country and even one facility in Mexico City, Mexico. The brand was easily recognized by its mascot Little Miss Sunbeam®, who was created by children's book illustrator Ellen Segner.

According to Guinness World Records, Turkey has the largest per capita consumption of bread in the world as of 2000, with 199.6 kg (440 lb) per person; Turkey is followed in bread consumption by Serbia and Montenegro with 135 kg (297 lb 9.9 oz), and Bulgaria with 133.1 kg (293 lb 6.9 oz).
In the UK, the first sliced bread was sold in 1930 by the Wonderbread label. And the first bread slicing and wrapping machine in the UK appeared in 1937 in the Wonderloaf Bakery, Tottenham. Calcium was added to bread flour to prevent rickets in the UK in 1941, and iron and vitamin B1 in 1956.
It turns out that in many stores the bread isn't fresh at all — at least not in the sense of 'just baked' that most people would understand. It's been cooked days or weeks before in a factory kilometres away and sent (often frozen) to be re-heated in that in-store 'bakery'.
