Hoth is an ice planet in the Star Wars fictional universe. It first appeared in the 1980 film The Empire Strikes Back and has also been a setting in Star Wars books and video games.
Because Lucas, while he later didn't want to, had plans to do a prequel trilogy. Later, Star Wars was renamed “Episode IV: A New Hope” to fit this numerical system. So when the first Star Wars movie came out, there was no “Episode IV”.
