MLB delays 2020 season | FastCast. Major League Baseball has cancelled the remainder of its Spring Training games, also announcing that the start of the 2020 regular season will be delayed by at least two weeks due to the national emergency created by the coronavirus pandemic.
The National League had eight original members: the Boston Red Stockings (now the Atlanta Braves), Chicago White Stockings (now the Chicago Cubs), Cincinnati Red Stockings, Hartford Dark Blues, Louisville Grays, Mutual of New York, Philadelphia Athletics and the St. Louis Brown Stockings.
League-wide realignment
Two expansion teams gets MLB to 32 teams total, or four four-team divisions per league. MLB will want to keep the historic division rivalries intact (Cardinals-Cubs, Dodgers-Giants, Red Sox-Yankees, etc.) but also make travel as easy as possible. The Division Series (also known as the League Division Series) is the quarterfinal round of the Major League Baseball playoffs. As with any quarterfinal in a best-of tournament, a total of four series are played in this round, two each for both the American League and the National League.
This was the team with the most wins amongst non-division winners. The wild-card matchup was played in the first round between the League leader in wins and the wild-card team, unless both teams were in the same division, which resulted in the wild card facing the second-best division winner in the league.

Differences. The only big difference between the National League and the American League (AL) is that the AL uses the "Designated Hitter" (or DH). The NL does not use the Designated Hitter, and all players on the team must bat and field for themselves.
In baseball statistics, an error is an act, in the judgment of the official scorer, of a fielder misplaying a ball in a manner that allows a batter or baserunner to advance one or more bases or allows an at bat to continue after the batter should have been put out.
Joseph Francis Buck (born April 25, 1969) is an American sportscaster and the son of sportscaster Jack Buck. Since 1996, he has served as the play-by-play announcer for the World Series, each year, with the exceptions of 1997 and 1999.
Because the American League and National League were once (as their names indicate) organizationally and corporately separate organizations, which created an organization (Major League Baseball), originally primarily as a go-between for interleague communication and cooperation and secondarily to organize the two then-

Baseball is a game that can be played every day for many days in a row. Because of that, the season consists of a ton of games (162). To avoid having to travel every day, you play 3-4 (or very rarely 2) games at one location against the same team in a "series".
So 3 games played either back to back, day OFF, or 3 games, day off, then 3 games allow for scheduling and rest for players and WHOLE logistics teams that move them from here to there.
MLB Teams By State
| State Name | MLB Team(s) |
|---|
| Pennsylvania | Philadelphia Phillies Pittsburgh Pirates |
| Texas | Houston Astros Texas Rangers |
| Washington | Seattle Mariners |
| Wisconsin | Milwaukee Brewers |
Teams normally play "series" of three (occasionally four) games on consecutive days against the same opponent, normally with a "homestand" of two or three series, or a "road trip" (though most of the travelling is now done by air!) of two or three series.
A doubleheader (in the classic sense) is a set of two baseball games played between the same two teams on the same day in front of the same crowd.
Currently, major league teams playing two games in a day usually play a "day-night doubleheader", in which the stadium is emptied of spectators and a separate admission is required for the second game. However, such games are officially regarded as separate games on the same date, rather than as a doubleheader.
The 30 teams in MLB are divided into two leagues: American and National. Each league is divided into three divisions: East, Central, West. Since the 2013 season, each division has had five teams. The most recent change took place after the 2012 season, when the Houston Astros moved from the NL Central to the AL West.
Players are generally given a day off once a week or so, though some are durable enough to play every game and others aren't good enough to play every day in the first place. And, as was said, pitchers usually only play once every five days, or else only pitch an inning or two every couple days.
The National League played a 154 game schedule for the final time in 1961 before switching to 162 games when they also expanded to ten teams for the following season.
It was the first season of what is now called the "Divisional Era", where each league of 12 teams was divided into two divisions of six teams each.
The 1962 Major League Baseball expansion was the formation of two new Major League Baseball (MLB) teams for the 1962 season. The Houston Colt . 45s (later renamed the Astros) and the New York Mets were added to the National League (NL), becoming the 19th and 20th teams in MLB's two leagues.
