Logitech confirmed to CNET that the Crayon officially works with the new iPad Air and iPad Mini, the 9.7-inch iPad and last year's iPad Pros in other words, all the iPads Apple currently sells. (I haven't tested on older models.)
It has its drawbacks: its tip is of quite slack rubber so has some of the flabbiness of the Pencil 53; although in other Apps the dynamic range of its pressure sensitivity is straightforward, with Procreate it's necessary to have the Pressure Curve adjusted close to maximum, and the Brushes' 'Pencil' tab settings
The Pixel's selling point is compatibility. Apple Pencil works with just the 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch iPad Pro models, while the Pixel is compatible with the iPhone 5, 6, 6 Plus, third- and fourth-gen iPads, iPad minis from 1–4, both iPad Air models, and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
iPads are terrific note-taking devices. They're light and easy to use, and now with the iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini and regular 9.7in iPad all supporting one or other Apple Pencil, everyone can use handwriting to record their thoughts.
Of course, the iPad Pro has the Apple Pencil. Unfortunately, other iPads, such as the Air and the mini, cannot pair with the Pencil, so I ruled that out. A rubber-tipped capacitive stylus interacts with the screen the same way your fingertip does, so it is ready to use instantly.
The Pencil isn't the only iPad stylus out there but it's the only one we recommend buying. If you're already spending (at least) a few hundred dollars on an iPad, if you want a stylus, it's worth getting the best one.
A 64GB LTE iPad Air 2 is worth $270—considerably less than the $729 you most likely paid for it not long ago. Sadly, the original iPads have not held up so well—on Gazelle, they're now worth less than a new pair of Apple headphones or a couple of overly designed lanyards.
At 10.5 inches, the iPad Air offers a decent canvas for drawing and painting, as well as an excellent portal for inspecting and editing your photos. It's lighter and more portable than the iPad Pro, without being much heavier than the smaller iPad mini.
The iPad can be a great tool for taking notes, but the native iOS Notes app doesn't cut it for everyone. To take truly useful notes that can replace that spiral notebook, you're going to need the help of an app or two.
iPad Pro 12.9-inch review: Apple's first iPad that's amazing for artists (and some designers) After six months of use, we've discovered that the iPad Pro is the best drawing and painting tool we've ever seen - but it's not for every type of creative.
The Apple Pencil doesn't work with any other model of iPad (or iPhone), so if you own a pre-2018 iPad, iPad Air or iPad mini you'll need to read on for your stylus needs.
Aluminum foil works similarly to a
stylus.
Steps:
- Remove the ink from the pen.
- Cut the cotton swab at a sharp angle and insert it into the mouth of the pen. Secure with tape.
- Wrap the foil around the neck of the pen, a couple of centimeters above the tip of the cotton swab.
- Moisten the cotton swab with a drop of water.
Not everyone needs to use an Apple Pencil, but you'll get a lot of use out of one if you frequently find yourself in the situations below. First, as a rule of thumb, if you've never found yourself thinking that some iPad activity would be easier if you only had a pen, you probably don't need an Apple Pencil.
When you touch a capacitive screen with your finger, it alters the electrical properties of the charged screen in that spot, registering your touch. Styluses are still usable on capacitive screens, but they must be made of a conductive material to transmit the electrical field necessary to register the contact.
The 6 best styluses for note-taking on the iPad

- Adonit Pixel.
- Adonit Jot Pro.
- Pencil by 53 (no improvements by 53 anymore)
- Pogo Connect 2.
- Bamboo Fineline.
There are two versions of the Apple Pencil. The original Pencil costs $99, while the Apple Pencil (2nd Generation) sells for $129. They're not interchangeable — you need to purchase a different Pencil depending on what version of the iPad you have.
