Thomas Tunnock Limited, commonly known as Tunnock's, is a family-owned bakery based in Uddingston, Scotland. It is headed by Boyd Tunnock, grandson of Thomas. This is a circular plain sweet biscuit, topped by a thin layer of jam, followed by marshmallow and dipped in chocolate. Having read much about the Tunnock's Teacake, I would like to see a comparative review of this favourite and the Chocolate Royal - a bit like the Tim Tam and Penguin review.
However, for those of us who live in the South and take afternoon tea, a teacake is a small fruited bun which we toast and spread with liberal amounts of butter. He said: "I didn't even know what a teacake was because in Scotland it's a mallow thing with biscuit".

The Tunnock's Teacake is a sweet food often served with a cup of tea or coffee. It was developed by Sir Boyd Tunnock in 1956. The product consists of a small round shortbread biscuit covered with a dome of Italian meringue, a whipped egg white concoction similar to marshmallow, although somewhat lighter in texture.
England. In most of England, a teacake is a light, sweet, yeast-based bun containing dried fruits, most usually currants, sultanas or peel. It is typically split, toasted, buttered, and served with tea. It is flat and circular, with a smooth brown upper surface and a somewhat lighter underside.
The original and best summer treat. Buy it. Keep your tea cake in its wrapper; if it's already a bit battered, even better… Freeze it.
