Re: duct tape & metal detectors
It's just rubber-based adhesive on fabric backing. Containing no metal it could not set off a metal detector. If you're talking about other types of metallic looking tape then YMMV.Duct tape does not offer the same fire-resistant property that is generally found in electrical tape. Indeed, it's recommended not to use it as a substitute in electrical wiring applications. Duct tape is generally more expensive than electrical tape.

Duct tape is recommended for use in temperatures between 20 and 200 degrees F. While the tape is not flammable, the extremes of temperature will make it difficult for the rubber adhesive to properly bond with a surface that's too hot.
Because it has a cloth backing and strong adhesive glue it is NOT biodegradable. A company in the US, Tape Brothers, has started making Eco Tape that's able to break down in landfills in about 15 years. That's good to hear since there is enough duct tape sold each year to wrap around the equator 12.3 times.
