After the Kushanas, the Guptas were the most important dynasty. The Gupta period has been described as the Golden Age of Indian history. The first famous king of the Gupta dynasty was Ghatotkacha's son Chandragupta I. He married Kumaradevi, the daughter of the chief of the Licchavis.

Though India became a free nation on August 15, 1947, it declared itself a Sovereign, Democratic and Republic state with the adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950. The Constitution gave the citizens of India the power to choose their own government and paved the way for democracy.

India held Rs 55 crores in terms of assets and liabilities that it had to give Pakistan. We held it back to force Pakistan out of Kashmir and that move may have worked. However the Mahatma went on a fast unto death for that money to be released to Pakistan!
Till the collapse of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, there were several thousand Hindus living in the country but today their number is only about 1,000. The local Hindu community in Afghanistan is mostly based in the city of Kabul.
An early symptom of the weakness of the empire was Britain's withdrawal from India in 1947. During World War Two, the British had mobilised India's resources for their imperial war effort. They crushed the attempt of Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress to force them to 'quit India' in 1942.
The main spokesperson for the partition was Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He became the first Governor-General of Pakistan. Millions of people moved across the new Radcliffe Line between the two newly formed states. The population of undivided India in 1947 was about 570 million.
The Partition of India of 1947 was the division of British India into two independent dominion states, India and Pakistan. The two self-governing countries of India and Pakistan legally came into existence at midnight on 15 August 1947.
