One World Trade Center officially opens in Manhattan on November 3, 2014. The new tower, along with the rest of the World Trade Center complex, replaced the Twin Towers and surrounding complex, which were destroyed by terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
The 9/11 Memorial is free and open to the public seven days a week, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Museum tickets can be purchased up to six months in advance and include entry to all available exhibitions. Last admission is one hour prior to closing.
Engineers suggested that the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed first, even though it was hit by the second plane, because the fireball caused by the crash was larger and because the plane hit the corner of the building, rather than the center, where there is more structural support.

Twin Towers, which opened in 1973 and were the tallest buildings in the world at the time of their completion.

But the site was still dangerous. Underground fires continued to burn for months. Every time a crane moved a large chunk of debris, the sudden rush of oxygen intensified the flames. Downtown Manhattan reeked of smoke and burning rubber, plastic and steel.
In total, twenty survivors were pulled out of the rubble. The final survivor, Port Authority secretary Genelle Guzman-McMillan, was rescued 27 hours after the collapse of the North Tower.
What You Need to Know Before Visiting. The memorial itself is free to visit, but tickets are required to enter the museum. Photography is permitted at the memorial, but visitors are asked to respect the space as it is a memorial commemorating the victims of the attacks.
