For an 8" x 10" print, the image resolution should be 1536 x 1024 pixels minimum. For a 16" x 20" print, the image resolution should be 1600 x 1200 pixels minimum. For a 20" x 30" print, the image resolution should be 1600 x 1200 pixels minimum.

Computer files are usually measure in KB or MB. Today's storage and memory is often measured in megabytes (MB). A medium-sized novel contains about 1MB of information. 1MB is 1,024 kilobytes, or 1,048,576 (1024x1024) bytes, not one million bytes.

High Resolution: One of the notable advantages of the JPEG standard is that it supports 24-bit color with up to 16 million colors. Hence, it has been widely used for compressing and encoding digital images with high resolutions.
A high-resolution JPEG is a graphics file format that compresses more data into available pixels providing an image with less loss. This JPEG format works best with photographs and detail-filled artist renderings, because it preserves more of the original work.
Since the resolution is 300 dpi, it means that each inch is 300 pixels across. As the image is 8 inches wide that means there are 2,400 pixels in width (8 x 300). Likewise, as the image is 12 inches long, the image is 3,600 pixels in length (12 x 300).
4K video is significantly larger than 1080p and as a result requires a lot more storage space. While a single minute 1080p footage at the standard 30 frames per second requires only 130 MB, a 4K video at the same framerate will require a whopping 375 MB.
Typically images will be supplied as JPEGs, and an A4 (210mm x 297mm or 8¼” x 11¾”) image at 72 ppi will create a JPEG of approximately 500kb or half a megabyte. Remember though – to use that image in print we need the image to be 300 ppi, and at that resolution the JPEG will be around 3.5 Megabytes.
How to convert jpg to hdr?
- Upload jpg-file.
- Select «to hdr» Select hdr or any other format, which you want to convert (more 200 supported formats)
- Download your hdr file. Wait till your file will be converted and click download hdr -file.
Start Paint and load the image file. In Windows 10, press the right mouse button over the image and pick Resize from the popup menu. In the Resize image page, pick Define custom dimensions to display the Resize image pane. From the Resize image pane, you can specify a new width and height for your image in pixels.
Checking resolution on a PC
To check a photo's resolution on a Windows PC, select the file you want to use. Right-click on the image and then select "Properties." A window will appear with the image's details. A high-resolution image is anything that has at is 300 dpi high resolution with a larger pixel dimension, for example, 5000 x 4000 pixels. If you have an image that is 640 x 40 at 72dpi, you definitely have too small of an image!
Steps
- Click Quick Upload. It's on the right below the image banner on the right.
- Click Choose file. This grey button is in the middle of the page.
- Click the photo that you want to resize.
- Click Open.
- Click Set File Size.
- Type a file size in kBs.
- Click Resize File.
- Click Save.
To compress all pictures in your document, on the ribbon, select File > Compress Pictures (or File > Reduce File Size). on the Picture Format tab. Select an option in the Picture Quality box. Highest resolution is listed first and the lowest resolution is listed last.
Compress a picture
- Select the picture you want to compress.
- Click the Picture Tools Format tab, and then click Compress Pictures.
- Do one of the following: To compress your pictures for insertion into a document, under Resolution, click Print.
- Click OK, and name and save the compressed picture somewhere you can find it.
Compress individual pictures
- To compress all pictures in your document, on the ribbon, select File > Compress Pictures (or File > Reduce File Size).
- Select an option in the Picture Quality box.
- Click Selected pictures only or All pictures in this file.

Change default picture resolution for all pictures in a document

The amount of JPEG compression is typically measured as a percentage of the quality level. An image at 100% quality has (almost) no loss, and 1% quality is a very low quality image. In general, quality levels of 90% or higher are considered "high quality", 80%-90% is "medium quality", and 70%-80% is low quality.
This makes it useful for storing photographs at a smaller size than a BMP. JPG is a common choice for use on the Web because it is compressed. For storing line drawings, text, and iconic graphics at a smaller file size, GIF or PNG are better choices because they are lossless.
Optimize as JPEG
Open an image and choose File > Save For Web. Choose JPEG from the optimization format menu. To optimize to a specific file size, click the arrow to the right of the Preset menu, and then click Optimize To File Size.Lossless JPEG. Lossless JPEG is a 1993 addition to JPEG standard by the Joint Photographic Experts Group to enable lossless compression. However, the term may also be used to refer to all lossless compression schemes developed by the group, including JPEG 2000 and JPEG-LS.
JPEG – uses lossy and lossless optimization. You can adjust the quality level for a good balance of quality and file size. GIF – only uses 256 colors. It's the best choice for animated images.

JPG is lossy, which means we do not get back the same quality we put in. There are more losses every time it is saved as JPG. With lossless formats (PNG or TIF LZW), it does not matter if you save a jillion times.
Lossy compression
The process is irreversible, once you convert to lossy, you can't go back. And the more you compress it, the more degradation occurs. JPEGs and GIFs are both lossy image formats. By default WordPress uses a lossy compression rate of 90 percent to optimize JPEG images when creating preview images.
