The Switch comes with a pair of Joy-Con controllers in the box, either neon (blue on the left, red on the right) or gray. Of course, additional gamepads are necessary for local multiplayer gaming on any console, but $79.99 for two extra Joy-Cons is a lot more than $59.99 for, say, a second Xbox One controller.
Nothing in the breakdown explains why the Joycons are so expensive at $80. The MEMS accelerometer they use costs $1.88 each when buying 500 at a time. Presumably the other chips are about that much as well.
Is the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller worth $70? If you're looking for a more traditional console experience out of the Switch or your hands are on the larger side, the Pro Controller is a worthy investment.
There's little to no difference between the two other than the overall cost of the controller and the fact that wireless requires batteries. Only advantage they hold is what others already listed, the weight. Wired controllers weigh less cuz they don't need a battery pack, while wireless weigh more.
Since the adapter is essentially just USB dongle, you can actually use it to connect any wired USB controller instead, which opens the door to using your arcade fight sticks on the Switch, whether they're from PS4, PS3, Xbox One, or Xbox 360. The device should immediately connect to the Switch as a wired controller.
8Bitdo's Wireless Bluetooth Adapter lets you use PS4, Xbox One and Wii U controllers on your Nintendo Switch. It also lets you use all of those controllers — in addition to your Joy-Con or Switch Pro Controller — with your PC, Android TV or Raspberry Pi.
TL;DR – These are the Best Controllers for Super Smash Bros.Ultimate 2020:
- GameCube Controller.
- PDP Wired Fight Pad Pro.
- Hori Nintendo Battle Pad.
- Nintendo Joy-Con.
- Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
- PowerA Wireless Controller.
- 8BitDo Wireless Bluetooth Adapter.
- Hori Nintendo Switch Wireless HoriPad.
With two pairs of Joy-Cons, one coming with the console and the second bought for $70, you would have four controllers for multiplayer games. You would need to buy two Pro Controllers for a total of $120 to have four controllers and double that number if you want four controllers for guests to use.
It's also pretty good for Smash, much MUCH better than the Wii U Controller was for Smash. Not just because they flipped the buttons and analogue stick, it also just "feels" better in general. The pro controller is just about the most premium and satisfying controller I've ever held.
The GameCube controller isn't objectively better than the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller (which has its own Ultimate editions), it's just more familiar to enough people that it's practically become Smash dogma. That said, just about anything would be better than playing the new Smash with a Joy-Con.
Granted, the Pro Controller hasn't got the best D-Pad for a game like Smash Bros., and the overall layout of the buttons can put some people off, but there is no denying its many uses. You can also use the Pro Controller on the go as you don't need to rely on the adapter.
SCUF has controllers with pro player signature designs, Xbox 360-sized PS4 controllers, PS4 controllers with the XBOX stick layout, etc., but Battle Beaver has the option to increase your stick tension, and also turn your triggers into buttons. Battle Beavers are also known to be more durable.
The GameCube controller is preferred for competitve smash bros for 2 reasons. The first one is that it is the controller for melee, so many players are used to the design and how it works. It is very comfortable to hold and use, and some are just less erogonomic for professional players.
Is the Hori Nintendo Switch HORIPAD Wired Controller Good? It's an okay controller. It doesn't have gyro, motion, rumble, or NFC, But its a pretty comfortable controller for dock mode in my opinion. If you play games that don't necessarily need the additional functions, I'd say it's worth it.
It works for them. Other companies publishing on the Switch sometimes follow Nintendo's lead. They also set the prices slightly higher than on other consoles because carts are more expensive than Blu-Rays, and they bring the games out later on Switch than on other consoles, meaning they start at full price later.
The Switch Lite's bright colors and smaller price tag are definitely appealing, but you'll get more use out of the larger Switch. Plus, you'll be able to play more Switch games. The improved battery life and hybrid abilities genuinely make the new Switch V2 worth buying.
The answer is none. You can't use your Wii U Pro Controller, even though the Switch Pro Controller has the same button layout. Fortunately for players, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe supports two-person local multiplayer right from the controllers you carry with your Switch at all times.
As one of the Switch's biggest selling points, there are several different ways to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. In most modes, players can choose to play with a single, horizontally held Joy-Con; a pair of Joy-Con controllers, either attached, detached or in a grip; or a Pro Controller.
Some users have even started using the Switch Pro Controller instead. However, the Pro controller for the Switch is not without its faults. Users on Reddit have reported drift associated with the stand-alone gamepad as well as a supposed remedy for it.
This game requires 1 joycon for player. If you have 2 joycons, you can play with 2 players. If you want to play with more players (up to 4) you need to buy aditional joycons.
In fact, if you intend on playing any Nintendo game, you'll have to get the Switch. If you're looking to play the games they've adapted for Switch, there's no point and no, it isn't worth it. If you want to play Pokémon and co., then yes, it is.

As for the aesthetics, the PowerA controllers look pretty good overall. The standard Switch red and Target-exclusive Super Mario Bros. As it is, it's a perfectly suitable Pro substitute with excellent motion controls and programmable button options that just might change the way you play your games.
Lakka, an all-in-one emulator, has been updated with DeSmuME cores to run Nintendo DS games. It's said that most DS games are running full speed on Switch – no surprise given that the Wii U could play DS titles on Virtual Console, and the Switch is more powerful than Wii U.
Local Multiplayer (two to four players on one console): Supports single horizontal Joy-Con for each player, two Joy-Cons held vertically for each player, and Switch Pro Controller.
