The first is a statement of vision. It provides a destination for the organization. Next is a statement of mission. Mission – General statement of how you will achieve the vision.
“Our vision is to create a better everyday life for many people.†That's aspirational, short and to the point. More than that, it sets the tone for the company and makes it clear that they're in the market to offer low-priced good furnishings that suit everyone's lifestyle.
The vision and mission statements are a vital part of an organization's infrastructure. They give everyone involved in the company a shared purpose and direction. The mission sets the direction for the company's goals and the vision should light a path for how the organization can get there.
A Mission Statement defines the company's business, its objectives and its approach to reach those objectives. A Vision Statement describes the desired future position of the company. Elements of Mission and Vision Statements are often combined to provide a statement of the company's purposes, goals and values.

Tips for crafting your vision statement
- Project five to 10 years in the future.
- Dream big and focus on success.
- Use the present tense.
- Use clear, concise, jargon-free language.
- Infuse it with passion and make it inspiring.
- Align it with your business values and goals.
It outlines what an organization would like to ultimately achieve and gives purpose to the existence of the organization. A well-written vision statement should be short, simple, specific to your business, leave nothing open to interpretation. It should also have some ambition.
A vision statement, according to Nanus, is:
- Future oriented;
- Likely to lead to a better future for the organization – that is, it fits the organization's history and culture;
- Reflects the organization's values;
- Sets standards of excellence;
- Clarifies the organization's purpose and direction;
"Normal" vision is 20/20. 20/20 is not the best possible eyesight however, for example, 20/15 vision is better than 20/20. A person with 20/15 vision can see objects at 20 feet that a person with 20/20 vision can only see at 15 feet.
Good vision statements are long-term, describing the organization's desired end-state well into the future. Effective vision statements often describe on-going actions in which the organization will engage. Our goal is to achieve 100% customer satisfaction for every product that we sell.
Poor vision statements in contrast offer no inspiration, no energy, and no direction. Poor vision statements usually: use generic phrases instead of developing the organization's “winning idea” or something that makes the organization different from its competitors, or the key measures of success.
We define Strategic Vision as “What the organization hopes to become…the business you will be in tomorrow.” There are a few common paths to creating a strategic vision. Other leaders prefer to start with the company's Mission Statement to ground the company with their “organization's business and fundamental purpose.”
