BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (CBS4) – Breckenridge is recognized as the third most expensive town for housing in America. It says both renting and owning a home are out of reach for median income earners in a majority of the towns ranked. Researchers say the median home value is nearly $548,000.
Breckenridge will be most like Vail IMO. It's more laid back with a great mountain. If you want higher class shopping, dining, lodging, Vail or Aspen are better than Breckenridge.
Which resort is more crowded: Breckenridge or Vail? Considering Breck only has about 2,900 acres of skiable terrain and 34 lifts, compared to Vail's 5,289 acres of terrain and 31 lifts, we can safely say that Breck is now more crowded than Vail, especially on weekends.
On any given day, Vail will likely be more crowded than Beaver Creek. A caveat: Vail has much more skiable terrain than Beaver Creek, so theoretically that means skiers are more dispersed. However, as we discuss below, Vail has much more expert terrain, which funnels more beginner and intermediate skiers together.
Vail, CO. While no one refers to downtown Vail as downtown Vail, the core business center is reminiscent of a Bavarian Village, complete with its clock tower. Head slightly west to walk through the charming village of Lionshead, where more shops dot the pedestrian village streets.
Breckenridge has its lively town that's buzzing almost year-round, while Vail's ski village tends to be somewhat quieter in the summer months. However, we should note that many of our guests thoroughly enjoy a season-long stay in the Beaver Creek area of Vail.
Crowds and Conditions
Remember that despite Vail Resort's unbeatable grooming and snow-making capacities skied-off conditions ensue after massive use. Instead of spending a weekend on the slopes, arrive on a Saturday night and stay through Monday or Tuesday. To no one's surprise, Vail earned the number one spot and pricey Aspen came in at number two. Vail is the most expensive, over $1,000 more than Breckenridge (#3). Colorado is also clearly one of the most expensive states to ski, with four out of the five costliest resorts.

Shuttles from Vail to Breckenridge take 45 minutes. Copper Mountain to Breckenridge transportation takes 25 minutes. As you can see, no matter where you are in Summit or Eagle County, Breckenridge is just around the corner. The best part is, your lift ticket is valid at every single resort.

The Village at Breckenridge
The Village has long been a favorite year-round Colorado vacation destination with ski-in/ski-out access. The Village at Breckenridge is half a block from Main Street Breckenridge and bordered by National Forest and Maggie Pond.Breckenridge is more of a ski town, while the "skiiing" presence is still very evident in Aspen, the town itself is quite upscale and you'll find the clientel will be as well.

The quickest way to get from Denver to Vail is to drive which costs $9 - $15 and takes 1h 47m. Is there a direct bus between Denver and Vail? Yes, there is a direct bus departing from Denver Bus Center - Greyhound and arriving at Vail Transportation Center. Services depart every three hours, and operate every day.
Transportation between Beaver Creek and Vail
You have three options to get between resorts. High Mountain Taxi 970-524-5555 or ECO Transit bus or car service. Buses leave from the Beaver Creek Reception Center next to the main gate and the Vail Transportation Center about every half-hour from 6:00 am to 2:00 am.One of the great advantages of traveling to this area for your ski vacation is there are six world class ski resorts within an hour of one another. Shuttles from Beaver Creek to Breckenridge only take one hour. Keystone to Breckenridge Shuttles take 30 minutes. Shuttles from Vail to Breckenridge take 45 minutes.
You will not need a car in Vail, the bus system will get you just about everywhere and parking will cost between $25-$35 a day.
The ski area was founded by Pete Seibert and local rancher Earl Eaton in 1962, at the base of Vail Pass. The pass was named after Charles Vail, the highway engineer who routed U.S. Highway 6 through the Eagle Valley in 1940, which eventually became Interstate 70.
