Mary Winchester, or Zolûti to Mizos, (1865–1955) was a Scottish girl who was captured and held hostage by the Mizo tribes of Mizoram, India, in 1871, and rescued by the British expedition in 1872.

Mizo (iso 639-3 lus) is a Kuki-Chin language belonging to the Tibeto-Burman language family. It is the native language of the Mizo people in both the Mizoram state of India (23.36 N, 92.8 E) and Chin State in Burma.
Historian believe that the Mizos are a part of the great wave of the great wave of the Mongolian race spilling over into the eastern and southern India centuries ago. Their sojourn in Western Burma, into which they eventually around seventh century, is estimated to last about two centuries.
Mizo comprises of 5 major tribes and 11 minor tribes known under the common name Awzia. The 5 major tribes are- Lushei, Ralte, Hmar, Paihte, Pawi (or Poi). While major tribes maintained their respective dialects, the 11 minor tribes either lost their distinctive dialects as a result of association with larger tribes.
The major tribes that are found in the land of Mizoram are Dulien, Ralte, Poi, Jahao, Pankhup, Lakher, Paite, Falam, Tangur, Khuangli, Dalang, Sukte, Fanai, Leillul and Mar. All of these tribes are known to exist in Mizoram ever since this hilly landscape came into existence.
The name of the state is derived from "Mizo", the self described name of the native inhabitants, and "Ram", which in the Mizo language means "land." Thus "Mizo-ram" means "land of the Mizos".
Mizo is a Tibeto-Burman language of the Kuki-Chin sub- family, spoken in the state of Mizoram in India. Mizo is a tonal language and it has four tones in its inventory namely, high, low, rising and falling [2].
A popular dish is bai, made from boiling vegetables (the ingredients tend to differ from household to household) with bekang (fermented soybeans) or sa-um, a fermented pork, and served with rice. Sawhchiar is another common dish, made of rice and cooked with beef, pork or chicken.
Chibai or Ekhai are the words used to say hello or hi in Mizo which is mainly spoken in Mizoram and Chibai is also a way to greet people in Mizo.
Mangtha le - That is goodbye in Mizo language. Ka pi, mangtha le.
There are several songs named after the instruments; but Dar hla is the most popular and greatest in number. So it is commonly known as Dar hla. It has three musical notes.
Ei nang-bu nungshi(noong-shi).The most appropriate way to say “I love you†in Manipuri language or Meitei language Eina nang-bu noong-shi. There are two different kinds of manipuris that is meitei and bishnupriya. In Meitei language I love you can be said as eina nang nungshi or ei nangbu pami.
