Streaming this data 'for free' means you're not charged for the data transporting the entertainment service. The data for streaming is provided free of charge. It does not come out of your monthly data allowance.
Two key services comprise Optus' entertainment offerings. The first is the pay TV service Fetch, while the second is Optus' own sports streaming service, Optus Sport.
You can watch Netflix without the Internet. Yes, you will be happy to hear that you can watch both TV shows and movies from the Netflix catalog without connecting to the Internet. Next, you will need an Internet connection to download the Netflix title, and of course, an active Netflix streaming account.
Television

If you don't want to pay for an extra subscription, Fetch TV is compatible with free-to-air (FTA) services such as ABC iView, SBS On Demand and Tenplay. For about a $500 initial price or less, Fetch TV has the capability of being your new home entertainment hub.
That's correct, you don't need to be an Optus customer to access the Fetch TV, ultimate package. However, you do need to sign up for Optus Sports to view all the premium content. You can sign up for Optus Sports via the Apple App Store or Google Play, more info here.
Also, when you use Mobile TV Streaming (included on selected plans, or add to other eligible plans for just $10/month), you can watch as much as you like, data free on the Optus network.
Overall. Fetch TV seems to offer the best of both worlds between Foxtel and streaming services, and is a cheaper option than most pay TV plans. While you'll be relegated to streaming much of your content with Fetch, those with unlimited broadband connections will likely not notice any difference.

Have your plan and you're ready to watch? Now, pretty much every Optus plan with a bill has Optus Sport included at no extra cost. So, just in case you already have your mobile, Data SIM or home internet plan and want to slide-tackle into the action, all you need to do is activate your Optus Sport subscription.
Optus no longer Foxtel so you will have to get it from either Telstra or Foxtel directly. It will almost certainly be a satellite service not a cable one. As for existing boxes, Optus will send you a satchel(s) to return them.
Home Internet & nbnThe Fetch Mobi app brings your Fetch service to your mobile device. You can watch selected channels and movies, search the 7 Day TV guide, set up reminders for shows you want to watch and schedule recordings while on the go. You can connect your account to up to 3 mobile devices.
Since Telstra has exclusive access to Foxtel, Fetch TV is really the only other option outside of Big T. Available from a bunch of different telcos and providers, you can save a lot of cash with a Fetch TV bundle.
Re: Can I watch my optus fetch TV online? G'day @bcook, you're not able to stream Fetch content on a desktop/laptop. However, you can download the Fetch companion app and stream on your mobile device. The Fetch mobile app acts as a companion to your Fetch TV set top box.
You need a TV, a free to air antenna, broadband and a Fetch box and subscription. The Mini and Mighty boxes both connect to your modem using Wi-Fi, but if your Wi-Fi is unreliable you may need PLA devices to connect - you can order these from your Fetch service provider.

Movies you have bought or rented can be found under Menu > My Stuff > Movies. Selected Fetch plans with Optus include Movie Box, which offers 30 pre-selected on-demand movies every month. There is no charge to watch these movies. Go to Menu > Movies > Movie Box to view the movies currently available in Movie Box.
