A credit check for renting can take anywhere from a few minutes to one week. Most of the time, the delays are caused by the agent having to wait on a third party (for example an employer or previous landlord) to reply. Most agents should be able to give you an estimate if you ask.

As a rule, the higher the rent, the higher the credit score one will need. With this score, one can rent a standard rental space. A credit score between 600 and 750 is the consumer average and below 600 means a poor score. Still, with a poor credit score, the landlord may ask for a guarantor with a good credit history.

Credit card applications typically lower your credit score slightly, so don't keep applying for more cards if you're likely to be denied. Instead, work on building your credit with alternatives that: Extend you a line of credit. Report your on-time payments to the credit bureaus.
If there's concern that the account you're applying for, combined with your existing financial commitments, will strain you, they may decline the application. Having a high Credit Score may not be enough to be accepted if the potential lender finds your affordability too low.

In the UK, there's no set minimum credit score you need in order to buy a house. However, if you're buying a house with a mortgage, your credit score must be high enough for lenders to be willing to offer you a mortgage.
A soft inquiry occurs in cases where you check your own credit or when a lender or credit card company checks your credit to preapprove you for an offer. Soft inquiries do not impact your credit scores.

Almost anyone can be a guarantor. It's often a parent, spouse (as long as you have separate bank accounts), sister, brother, uncle or aunt, friend, or even a grandparent. To be a guarantor you'll need to be over 21 years old, with a good credit history and financial stability.
