Inspectors working on behalf of the S-Bahn Berlin never demand cash. They can only pay the increased fare of 60 euros by Girocard (formerly known as EC card) or credit card.
Public transportation is not currently free in Germany, although this is something the government are considering as a way to help combat air pollution. It is, however, heavily subsidized, and the cost of the U-Bahn, S-Bahn, trams, and buses in major cities is very cheap compared to London, Paris, and Zurich.
The U-Bahn or Untergrundbahn is the German version of the metro, subway or “the Tube” (the name is something of a misnomer, however, as many U-Bahn lines actually run above ground).
The S-Bahn operates 24 hours, in 30-minute-intervals during the night. The U-Bahn operates 24 hours, in 15-minute-intervals during the night. Exception: The U-Bahn lines U4 and U55 are not served. The Metrotram runs 24 hours, in 30-minute intervals from 0.30 a.m.
The City-Ticket is inclusive for all our passengers who book a Sparpreis (saver fare) or Flexpreis (flexible fare) ticket on long distance services of over 100 kilometers. It can be used on suburban trains, subways, buses and trams in the respective area of validity.
Vans and trucks are by far the most common form of transporting good on land in Germany – and most CO2 intensive. Trucks make up 71 percent of freight traffic, dwarfing trains (18 percent), ships (9 percent) and air freight (2 percent). Road transport will therefore be the most essential focus of emissions reduction.
With its ten lines, the U-Bahn (underground, subway) Berlin runs along a network of approximately 146 kilometres and includes 173 stations. Most metro lines operate underground, but some run on above ground tracks. The U-Bahn Berlin is known for its yellow-colored trains.
Travelling on Vienna's U-Bahn system will take you to the majority of the city's main points of interest. Construction on Vienna's metro system, called the U-Bahn, began in 1969, which makes it one of the most modern in Europe.
It was followed by
Germany, albeit with significantly fewer restaurants (681 locations). Worldwide, there were 41,600
Subway restaurants in 2019.

The Prague Metro covers all areas of the city centre, and extends some distance into the suburbs. The Metro operates 05:00-24:00. Metro lines run a service every 2-3 minutes during peak times, every 4-9 minutes after 19:00. There are 3 metro lines: A (green), B (yellow), C (red).
Today only four German cities (and Vienna in Austria) have underground/metro (U-Bahn) lines: Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, and Nuremberg. A few cities, such as Cologne, Hanover and Stuttgart, have light-rail (Stadtbahn) trains that sometimes run underground, but these are not true underground subway lines.
Vienna has a well-developed public transport network. Buses, trains, trams and underground lines will take you almost anywhere in the city in no time at all. Vienna public transport Wiener Linien operates five underground lines, 29 tram and 127 bus lines, of which 24 are night lines.
Even without the Internet, a Wiener Linien ticket can be purchased just about anywhere. All underground stations have ticket vending machines and one of Vienna's 850 Tabaktrafik (tobacconist) shops is usually just around the corner.
The first thing to note is that the lines pictured on the map are rather different to today's U-Bahn offering. The stretch from Thielplatz to Nordring is today split between two lines: the U3, from Thielplatz to Nollendorfplatz, and the U2, from there to Nordring, which is today called Schönhauser Allee.
You can buy German train tickets is directly through Germany's national rail system — Deutsche Bahn (). It accepts most international credit cards and tickets can be sent to you electronically or printed at home.

Germany has an extensive number of tramway networks (Straßenbahn in German). Some of these networks have been upgraded to light rail standards, called Stadtbahn in German. Tramways served as the primary means of urban transport in Germany until the early 1960s when they were systematically replaced by buses.
