Four years back, LG announced its TV operating system called WebOS. Despite it being so old, it is currently one of the best TV OS available. It comes with all the major video streaming service support.
To install the Developer Mode app, follow the steps below:
- Turn on your webOS TV and check if your webOS TV is connected to a network.
- Sign in with your LG Developer site account.
- Go to the LG Content Store.
- Search for "Developer Mode."
- Select the Developer Mode app and click the Install button.
LG's webOS system is very good when it comes to supporting the main video apps you're looking for on a TV – including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play and Disney+. It does, however, support the Dolby Vision format carried by Netflix and Amazon (plus Apple TV once that goes live). There are some minor issues.
LG, VIZIO, SAMSUNG and PANASONIC TVs are not android based, and you cannot run APKs off of them You should just buy a fire stick and call it a day. The only TVs that are android-based, and you can install APKs are: SONY, PHILIPS and SHARP.
We not only probed the platforms for features and functionality, we also judged them based on ease of use, simplicity of navigation and overall functionality. In the end, our favorite smart TV platforms were LG's webOS as the best overall, and Roku TV as the best platform that isn't tied to a specific brand.
Google's video store is getting a new home on LG's smart TVs. Later this month, all WebOS-based LG televisions will get an app for Google Play Movies & TV, as will older LG TVs running NetCast 4.0 or 4.5. LG's WebOS platform already offers other ways to buy or rent videos, including Amazon Video and Vudu.
- Press the Home/Smart button on your remote to bring up your launcher.
- Click the More Apps Button.
- Open the LG Content Store App.
- Choose Premium.
- Find your app in the LG Content Store, then choose Install.

Android TV is the name of the TV operating system that's developed in-house at Google. Of course, there are a half-dozen other smart TV platforms out there these days: LG has webOS with Google Assistnat, Samsung has Tizen and Roku has, well, Roku.
