The key fob of almost every car has a “panic” button which will set off your emergency alert systems, helping you find your vehicle in the most crowded parking garage.
Introducing the Silent Beacon™ Panic ButtonThe Silent Beacon panic button is a personal safety device that allows you to instantly call anyone including 911 while simultaneously alerting family and friends with your GPS location.
In the event the button is accidentally pressed and the vehicle's occupants are safe and able to respond, they can push the button again to cancel or have the operator end the call, and no emergency personnel will be dispatched.
What should I do if I accidentally dial 911? If you dial 911 by mistake, or if a child in your home dials 911 when no emergency exists, do not hang up – that could make 911 officials think that an emergency exists, and possibly send responders to your location. Instead, simply explain to the call-taker what happened.
If you dial 9-1-1 accidentally, stay on the line and advise the call-taker. If you hang up, the call-taker is required to call you back. If that call-taker cannot reach you or a busy signal is heard, the call-taker will send police if the caller's location is known.
If you ever accidentally dial 911, please don't hang up. If you don't call them back to explain that it was accidental then they will attempt to call you back. If they're unable to get you back on the line and have your location, we are then called and we send a unit out to do a welfare check on the resident.
Apple has so far declined to comment on the news, but experts have suggested the noise could be something called "coil noise" or "coil whine". This occurs when the processor is put under heavy duress, such as streaming high-quality video, or when lots of apps are left running on a device.
On Apple's latest handsets you can disable the function that enables the phone to automatically call the emergency services if you simply holding down the side button and a volume button. To do this, head into the Settings app, then tap Emergency SOS and set the Auto Call toggle to off.
911 has a hard time finding exact locations on cellphone calls, because of outdated technology. The system used to locate cellphone calls is 20 years old, designed long before smart phones or GPS. Here's how they explain it: When you call 911 from your cellphone, the dispatcher does not see your actual location.
