Yet Ravana of Sri Lanka is portrayed to be a different king and a human. He is described as a devout follower of the god Shiva, a great scholar, a capable ruler and a maestro of aveena, known as the ravanhattha. According to Hindu mythology Ravana was born to a great sage Vishrava and his wife, princess Kaikesi.
When Kubera came to know this, he cursed Ravana, that, "O Ravana, after today, if you touch any woman without her will, then your head will be cut into a hundred pieces." For this reason, daughter Sita Ravana cannot even touch you without your consent.
Ravana's daughter: In Sanghadasa's Jaina version of Ramayana, and also in Adbhuta Ramayana, Sita, entitled Vasudevahindi, is born as the daughter of Ravana. Thus, Ravana abandons her and orders the infant to be buried in a distant land where she is later discovered and adopted by Janaka.

Events that highlight Ravana's negative traitsHe had forcefully taken away the kingdom of Lanka that was built by Viswakarma and ruled by Kubera. His demons would terrorize the sages and wouldn't allow any other religion to prosper. He had sinned by cunningly abducting someone else's wife and to top it all, a Goddess!
The name that he was given at birth was Dashanana/Dasagriva, referring to the fact that he was born with ten heads. While Ravana proved to be aggressive and arrogant in nature during his youth, he was also an exemplary scholar. Under Vishrava's tutelage, Ravana mastered the Vedas and the holy books and also the arts.
Experts who study Hindu shastras say, Ravana used to create the illusion of ten heads. In reality, he was single-headed, but in acts of deception, he used to fool his enemies by creating an illusion of having ten heads.
Through his devotion and penance to the great god Brahma, Ravana was made invincible and had the power to assume any form he wished from men to mountains to death itself. He was so powerful that he could cause earthquakes and storms.
Ravana said, the most important lesson of life is that you must defer the bad action as much as you can and you must do good action without any delay and as much early as you can. If you follow this rule, you can save not only yourself but many other people from being damaged.

The usage of Tamil or Sanskrit by the priests at these Shiva temples implied that Ravana may have been fluent both in Tamil and Sanskrit, though Ramayana was composed in Sankrit.
