RAR4 was the default RAR format before RAR5. And, it's known to have better damaged archive recovery as compared with previous RAR formats. It uses a more advanced file table for quick browsing of archive and it has multicore decompression support too. One more important thing is the encryption algorithm RAR5 uses.
Windows
- Right-click the rar file to be opened.
- Select "7-Zip > Extract files".
- In the pop-up box that shows up, choose the folder where you'd like to extract the compressed files and click "OK". If you choose "Extract Here" instead, then the files are saved in the folder where the archive is store.
RAR creates a smaller filesize compared to ZIP in many cases, sometimes by a large margin. The difference, however, varies depending on the size and type of files being compressed. That's a 71% compression ratio. WinZIP, on the other hand, can only compress the test file down to 125 MB, or just 60% compression ratio.
7-Zip fastest is faster than WinRar fastest but has lower compression. 7-Zip fast takes about same time as WinRar fast but compress slightly more than any WinRar setting. Decompressing 7z files took 6.5-7.7 seconds, higher compression decompressed faster.
There is no loss of fidelity, no loss of image quality, and no change in data associated with zipping or unzipping. If you resize images while using Zip and E-Mail or when you create Zip files, this does reduce image quality.
ZIP is preferable if you are not sure that receiver of your archive has WinRAR or other software able to unpack RAR archives. Otherwise it is recommended to choose RAR, which supports more functions and higher compression. "RAR5" is the latest version of RAR format introduced in WinRAR 5.0.

Zip compression absolutely, definitely, full-stop has no effect on audio quality. It is a totaly lossless data compression system used for programs and data (so would be useless if it wasn't lossless). Zip in OSX and Windows is no different.
Compression works by removing redundancies in the file. A compressed file shouldn't have any more redundancies, so compressing it again will not reduce the file's size. You can even try it yourself. There are two different types of compression algorithms, lossy and lossless.

Let's see how to Open Rar File without Winrar
- Download, Install and Launch RAR Extractor Frog.
- Select the folder which you want to unzip.
- Open it into the RAR Extractor Frog.
- Tick the box Extract files to the default output folder.
- Click on browse and choose the location where you want to save the file.
- Click on OK.
To open/extract a RAR file in current working directory, just use the following command with unrar e option. To open/extract a RAR file in specific path or destination directory, just use the unrar e option, it will extract all the files in specified destination directory.
Step 1: Right click the RAR file you want to convert and select Open with RAR from the context menu. Step 2: Once the RAR file opens in WinRAR application, click Tools tab and then select convert archives.
