Acetone and mineral spirits may be used for the same purpose such as paint thinning and as solvents. However, several aspects of life such as the beauty industry use acetone, which cannot be replaced by mineral spirits. It is important to differentiate these two so as to avoid mishaps.
Turpentine and Odorless Mineral Spirits are industrial materials that emit toxic fumes. Essential Oils are ot only non-toxic to breathe, but are often used to promote health and well being medicinally and in aromatherapy. In addition, odorless mineral spirits do not smell but still emit toxic fumes.
- Hang the article of clothing outdoors and allow the mineral spirits to fully evaporate.
- Spray a generous amount of stain remover onto the spill.
- Wash the article of clothing as you normally would using a mild detergent.
- Remove the garment from your washer and hang it outside to air dry.
Dampen a clean rag with mineral spirits, and then quickly wipe away the paint before it dries. If it's already dry, apply elbow grease—the spot should clear with some scrubbing.
If the chemical is on the skin or in the eyes, flush with lots of water for at least 15 minutes. If the chemical was swallowed, immediately give the person water or milk, unless instructed otherwise by a provider.

I'd look at the Cole-Parmer list for comprehensive info. Mineral spirits (aka paint thinner) are no good for ABS plastic, HDPE, and EPDM. Linseed oil is no good for EPDM, rubber, and neoprene. Ethyl alcohol (the kind you can drink) will dissolve polyurethane but is pretty much OK for everything else.
It varies, depending on temperature, but mineral spirits typically evaporates in fifteen or twenty minutes.
