The good news is yes, those pesky filler lumps will in fact go away. It's actually quite uncommon for patients to experience any irritation or lumps following their procedure, but if you do, then you should expect them to dissipate after a few days. At the most, it may take 2-3 weeks to alleviate them entirely.
“If the opening of the gland becomes blocked, a cyst, or enlargement will form. Usually they resolve on their own in a matter of days. If they do not, then you need to visit your doctor for possible removal.”
If dermal filler is injected in the wrong place it can block your blood vessels and potentially cause death of the skin tissue. This can cause continuous pain and skin discoloration. As with other risks, if you choose a practitioner or doctor with extensive anatomy knowledge and experience you can minimise the risks.
If a filler is injected too superficially, it can cause lumps. They can also occur when too much product is injected into one area, or the product moves to create a large deposit in an area. The injector should also take precautions to avoid bruising as much as possible.
Swelling and redness around the lip area are common during lip injection recovery. The amount of lip filler used can also impact the level of swelling. This normal side effects with lip injections will be more noticeable and typically peak after two days, subsiding after two weeks.
Manipulation of the treatment areas with massage should be avoided for at least 24 to 48 hours after treatment. While filler rarely migrates, it has been reported at distant sites and in different planes (superficially) from injection.
Lip Enhancement TechniqueMassage prevents any uneven distribution of the product and helps to ensure a good balance in terms of the lip shape, projection, fullness and proportions. This creates the more natural-looking finish.
If given the “okay”, start to gentle massage your lips within the first 48 hours of receiving injections. Simply take your forefinger and thumb and slowly work around your lips in order to get out any bumpy areas where the filler may be more inclined to store itself.
Gentle massageGently press your lips between your thumbs and forefingers and roll your lips between your fingers. Massage your lips 2-3 days after having a lip injection.
Straight after it feels really weird, they're super swollen straight away and feel really solid. You're told to massage any lumps (ew) between your thumb and forefinger, which doesn't hurt because of the numbing cream, but after that's worn off they REALLY hurt for a good 12 hours.
Treatment for post-injection inflammation
- Cold packs. These help reduce swelling, itching, and pain.
- Over-the-counter pain medicines. These help reduce pain and inflammation.
- Prescription medicine. These treat infection.
Avoid itching, massaging, or picking around the injection site. This is normal and generally disappears within a few hours to a few days.
How long will lip swelling last for? Swelling will usually subside within a few days but we do ask clients to allow up to two weeks for this to fully go down.
Cost varies from patient to patient, but the good news is hyaluronidase costs less than fillers. Given the amount of product needed plus the provider's time for administering treatment, you can expect the cost of removing lip filler to start at $150. Total removal will take up to five office visits.
Inflammation appeared spontaneously, usually 4–5 months after the last injection, but in 1 patient, almost 14 months later. One patient was injected at the same time with fillers manufactured by 2 different technologies.
You're at the greatest risk of developing a cold sore from a lip enhancement procedure one to two days after injection. Of course, you can be prone to cold sores, get a lip filler and have no sign of an outbreak. But it's good practice to be precautious and minimize the risk.
