- How to get there.
- By Road: the reservoir lies just off the B5035 Ashbourne - Cromford road.
- By Bus: the 411 service from Ashbourne to Matlock goes to Carsington Water. Coming from Derby, take the Trans-Peak bus to Cromford and there pick up the 411 bus.
This lovely Ladybower Reservoir walk, is a gentle walk is on well-made paths and offers the most magnificent views for only a small amount of effort. Free parking is available along the route, although the walk starts and ends at Fairholmes Visitor Information Centre, operated by the Peak District National Park.
Inclusive Cycles are now available at Carsington WaterThe bikes are not suitable to be taken around the whole of the reservoir track. The cost to hire is £6.00 per bike for up to 2 hours hire, an induction on how the bikes operates will be given before you venture out on the track.
Carsington itself is still 'very much a lived-in village. ' Simon's family moved here 12 years ago and they are one of several families who did so partly due to its proximity to Carsington Water.
Its natural beauty, tranquil atmosphere, crystal clear waters and stunning fish combine to make Carsington Water addictive to anglers. Its gin clear waters are stocked with fish up to 8lb and fish are stocked weekly throughout the season. Carsington Water offers some of the best boat fishing in Derbyshire.
Sit on Tops, Kayaks, Open Canoes and Stand Up Paddleboards are welcome. Sailing dinghies can also be launched from the sailing club Wednesday - Sunday, if you have a large boat or keel boat then their slipway may be more suitable.
Carsington. Carsington Reservoir, known as Carsington Water, was opened by the Queen in 1992. It was formed by the damming of Scow Brook and in the winter months is filled by pumping water up from the river Derwent, about six and a half miles away near Whatstandwell.
The site is open every day (except Christmas day) from dawn until 8pm. Last admission to the site is 5pm.
The reservoir also includes two nature reserves, coarse fishing and the Staunton Harold Sailing Club. Has an events programme and features a large adventure play area. Opening times: April - Oct - board shows exact times on daily basis Nov - Mar. Admission: Free.

There is wheelchair access. There is wheelchair access to the Visitor Centre, Courtyard Shops, Restaurant and Walks. Admission is free and there is free parking for blue badge holders.. Mobility scooters are available to hire as are electric bikes.
The Long Walk is roughly 5 miles in length and is a circular route that takes you all the way round the reservoir, taking you across the dam wall then through farmland, before looping back round to the visitor centre. Find out more about Tittesworth Water Reservoir here.
The Tissington Trail runs for 13 miles from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay where it is joined by High Peak Junction. The High Peak and Tissington Trails were formerly the Cromford and High Peak and the Ashbourne to Buxton railway lines. You can walk, cycle or ride a horse on the trails all year round.
