Selling Wheat Pennies to dealers often takes place in person. Old wheat pennies are heavy, a roll of 50 coins is expensive to send through the mail. Finding a local dealer to meet at either their shop or at a coin show is economical.
1944 Lincoln cents as a whole, though, are quite common and can be had for about 10 to 20 cents in most circulated grade. Uncirculated specimens can be bought for around $5 each.
While the 1943 steel pennies are worth a few bucks, the rare copper version is worth more. One report suggested that, depending on the condition of it, the 1943 copper penny can be worth anywhere from $60,000 to $85,000.

The average circulated 1982 penny is worth 2 cents or less — so most people don't think of these old pennies as having much value. If you're diligent, you might find a 1982-D Small Date copper penny or another valuable error coin like it.
The Rare 1943 PennyThe reason is that the 1943 copper penny is an error coin. The United States Mint accidentally used the wrong kind of planchet metal when striking the coin. But very, very few of these left the U.S. Mint facilities.

No matter the cause, 1943 copper pennies now sell for just under $100,000 each, according to our resources. Warning: Many 1943 Copper Pennies are fakes. A 1948 copper penny can be filed down on the left side of the 8, making it look like a 3 instead.
