What's An “Athletic” Body Type? By “athletic,” we don't mean that you play softball in a 40-and-over league wherein there may or may not be a keg at second base. We mean someone with shoulders much wider than his hips, who more likely than not has a big chest, shoulders, and arms. This is a mesomorph who works at it.
Wide-legged pants, A-line skirts or dresses with patterned or ruffled tops that add definition to the upper body look great. Skinny jeans with loose tops help create an hourglass illusion. Crop tops, sweetheart, V or deep-V, scoop or boat necks will balance your bottom out.
How to Dress a Straight Body Shape
- Tops with nipped or belted waists.
- Off the shoulder, boat-neck tops, wide V or U necks.
- Structured shoulders, princess or flutter sleeves.
- Embellishments around the bust and shoulders.
- Tops that are full, rushed or flowing around the bust.
CASUAL WEAR
- Generally, fitted, mid-rise jeans not only look good, but they're comfortable too.
- Pencil and A-Line skirts accentuate your figure and can be dressed up or down.
- Accentuate your figure with tailored tops that flare out at the hips.
- Or try cinch tops with a belt at the waist.
Wear leggings or skinnies with longer, draped or asymmetrical tops. Leggings or stretchy pants that tuck in the tummy will be your best friend. They will fit comfortably around your belly and tuck it in a bit. Also, with so many wonderful tunics and long tops to choose from, you will look fabulous.
Dresses, skirts and jumpsuit for rectangle body shape
As well as dresses, jumpsuits will look great on you. Try a halterneck style to show off your shoulders. You can wear shorter shirt dresses over jeans or skinny pants. A-line skirts work really well for this shape.Do specific waist-shaping exercises.

Generally, an athletic build consists of large bones and large muscles. Your shoulders are probably wider then your hips, your thighs are bigger than your head, and your waist is likely to be small.

in warm weather you could wear a vest or sleeveless jacket. Look for dresses that have the same fit as the blouses you wear. Two pieces dresses will work to hide curves too. you can get outfits with skirts that will coordinate with tops you already have so you have more choices in outfit combinations.
As it turns out, you can't change your frame size, bone structure, or the places you store body fat or muscle. Then again, there's nothing wrong with training to get bigger muscles instead of smaller bodies. In fact, we highly recommend it! But the amount of change you see is limited by genetics.
Banana shaped body or the rectangular, ruler or the alphabet H have evenly proportionate shape, which means your shoulders, hips and waist are pretty evenly proportioned. You might have small to medium size bust and your waist is not defined.
The Rx: To add some curves, women with straight builds should focus on tightening their core—especially their deep abdominal muscles which pull in the belly, and the obliques, which cinch in the sides of the waist.
While you can't truly change your body shape, you can contribute to a square look by overtraining your obliques. These muscles at the sides of your abdomen are responsible for side bending and rotation. For those who tend toward a square body shape, muscular obliques thicken your waist, making it appear square.
So what are these different body types?
- Triangle or “pear” With this shape, your shoulders and bust are narrower than your hips.
- Spoon. The spoon body type is pretty similar to the triangle or “pear” shape.
