Ottoman Iraq refers to the period of the history of Iraq when the region was ruled by the Ottoman Empire (1534–1920; with an interlude from 1704 to 1831 of autonomy under the Mamluk dynasty of Iraq). Before reforms (1534–1704), Iraq was divided into four Eyalets (provinces):

Ultimately, Iraq was granted full independence as the Kingdom of Iraq in 1932.
Britain seized Iraq from Ottoman Turkey during World War I and was granted a mandate by the League of Nations to govern the nation in 1920. A Hashemite monarchy was organized under British protection in 1921, and on October 3, 1932, the kingdom of Iraq was granted independence.
Withdrawal. The British combat mission ended with the handover of Camp Bastion to Afghan forces on 26 October 2014. British troops have remained in Afghanistan since in a training and advisory role based in Kabul and Helmand.
A total of 179 British Armed Forces personnel or MOD civilians have died serving on Operation TELIC since the start of the campaign in March 2003. Of these, 136 were killed as a result of hostile action.
King Faisal died of a heart attack on 8 September 1933 in Bern, Switzerland. He was 48 years old at the time of his death. Faisal was succeeded on the throne by his eldest son Ghazi.
Later, Jordan has been a part of the Nabataean Kingdom, the Roman Empire, and the Ottoman Empirem until the Great Arab Revolt occurred against the Ottomans in 1916 during World War I. After the division of the Ottman Empire between France and England, Jordan had become a British colony.

On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion, the head of the Jewish Agency, proclaimed the establishment of the State of Israel. U.S. President Harry S. Truman recognized the new nation on the same day.

British-led Allied military campaign during the Second World War against the Kingdom of Iraq under Rashid Ali, who had seized power in the 1941 Iraqi coup d'état, with assistance from Germany and Italy.

In July 1958, a group of Royal Iraqi Army officers led by Abd al-Karim Qasim mounted a coup d'état and overthrew the monarchy. Faisal was executed along with numerous members of his family in the process.
