Liliana Vess is a human planeswalker from Dominaria and is both a master necromancer and a healer. She is dead to the Multiverse, her survival known only to Kaya, Teyo Verada, and Araithia Shokta.
Loyalty abilities follow special rules: A player may activate a loyalty ability of a permanent they control any time they have priority and the stack is empty during a main phase of their turn, but only if none of that permanent's loyalty abilities have been activated that turn. See rule 606, “Loyalty Abilities.”
Created and popularized by fans, Commander is a casual format in which each player's deck is led by that player's commander—traditionally a legendary creature, although a few planeswalker cards outside of this product state that they can also be a deck's commander.
Planeswalkers are powerful allies you can call on to fight by your side. You can cast a Planeswalker during either main phase of your turn (or any other time you could cast a sorcery spell). A Planeswalker is a permanent, so when a Planeswalker spell you control resolves, it enters the battlefield under your control.
On one side is Nicol Bolas, a power-hungry elder dragon, and the planeswalkers who have helped him infiltrate Ravnica's guilds. On the other is the Gatewatch, a team of planeswalkers sworn to protect the people of the Multiverse from people like Bolas.
This week, the focus is on the classic elder dragon Nicol Bolas! Before the dragon was a Planeswalker he was a creature—and the people behind CMDR Decks have pulled his original version out yet again to lead a Commander deck into battle!
Ugin is a dragon of great stature, with feathered wings and scales of coruscating blue. He is the twin brother of Nicol Bolas, and sibling to Arcades Sabboth, Chromium Rhuell, Merrevia Sal and Palladia-Mors.
He's also a generally good guy and likes to, you know HELP the multiverse with his infinite knowledge unlike SOME PEOPLE (@Bolas), and even though the bad guys can be cooler and let's face it most of the time they are, Ugin has to be one of the coolest good guys out there.
The Spirit-Gem was a mystic artifact that was metaphysically tied to the Meditation Realm. Nicol Bolas used to wear it between his horns.
Garruk Wildspeaker is a Planeswalker who wields green magic. His specialty is creature magic: spells that coax abundant mana from the land, summon wild beasts, and unleash the ferocity and power of his summoned creatures. But since being cursed by the Chain Veil, his nature spells have been tainted by black magic.
Ugin is kind of a mirror counterpart to Bolas, so they're probably roughly equal in power. Ugin is probably the closest one out of relatively "friendly" characters, although to my understanding, Bolas is currently quite a bit stronger than him.
God-Eternal OketraOketra, however, was killed in the Hour of Promise by the Scorpion God and later zombified by Bolas to become a God-Eternal. In addition to her strength, the white zombie God-Eternal Oketra creates a four/four zombie token creature with vigilance every time you cast a creature spell.
The remaining planeswalkers, along with Ravnican military forces, launch one last attack on Bolas' Citadel. During the battle, Dack is killed by Eternals, who harvest his spark. Gideon rides a pegasus toward Bolas, but it gets shot down by the God-Eternal Oketra.
