- Stir in lemon essential oil, honey and vitamin E oil. Immediately pour into small containers, using small funnel.
The bulk of the lip balm is rich, glossy castor oil and creamy cetearyl alcohol. Lecithin and stearic acid further amp up the creamy factor; I love the slight tug they both add to the balm. Stearic acid also contributes to wax-less thickening. We do still have two waxes in here—beeswax and candelilla.
If you prefer not to use beeswax or you just don't have it on hand, you can still make an awesome lip balm or gloss! Coconut oil, shea butter, honey, and castor oil can all be used in various proportions to make a solid, hydrating lip gloss. Try a simple honey lip balm with coconut oil or shea butter, for instance.

Fragrance Oils - Fragrance oil can be used in lip balm as long as it is lip safe. IFRA Maximum Skin Exposure Levels for your fragrance oil for use on lips should be 1% or more. The typical usage rate is about 1% of total lip balm recipe. Essential Oils - Essential oil can be used in lip balm as well.
