Insider spoke to several experts to find out the clear signs that show your cat is uncomfortable around you.
- Their tail is horizontal. A low-hanging tail isn't a good sign.
- They keep hiding from you.
- They bite.
- They walk away from you.
- They hiss at you.
- They're friendly to everyone else except you.
Classic signs of depression in cats include:
- Decrease in activity.
- Not eating normally.
- Hiding.
- Retreating from other pets of family members.
- Sleeping more than usual.
- Changes in bathroom habits.
- Lack of interest in activities that they previously enjoyed (playing, seeking out affection)
- Failure to groom properly.
Here are signs of a happy cat:
- Vocal clues. Cats can be very vocal, especially when they're happy.
- A healthy appearance. If cats feel good, they will keep themselves well groomed.
- A relaxed posture.
- Eyes and Ears.
- Social sleeping.
- Playful behaviour.
- A good appetite.

Play-aggressive cats are usually young and very active; however, even older cats can be playfully aggressive. These cats tend to be very high-energy cats that become easily bored and have a short attention span. They will usually find just about anything to play with and are very rough and intense in their play.
When cats are exerting their dominance, they will stiffen their ears and rotate them sideways. This is matched to standing upright, prolonged staring, and raising the base of their tail (while drooping the tip). Verbal displays of dominance include hissing and yowling.
