Not looking at the speaker. Rushing the speaker and making him feel that he's wasting the listener's time. Showing interest in something other than the conversation. Getting ahead of the speaker and finishing her thoughts. Not responding to the speaker's requests.

The definition of hearing has more to do with the physiological act of hearing sounds than it does with making sense and connecting with the person who's talking to you. Listening, on the other hand, means “to pay attention to sound; to hear something with thoughtful attention; and to give consideration.”
Here are a few ways to be more attentive:

- Be a sponge. When having conversation, soak up everything the person is saying.
- Make eye contact.
- Ask questions.
- Set small, short-term goals.
The three "As," which are attitude, attention, and adjustment, play a key role in listening skills. Once you understand how these impact your listening, they most likely will stay in your mind and keep you on your toes when it comes to the times you need them the most.
The four types of listening are appreciative, empathic, comprehensive, and critical. Familiarize yourself with these different types of listening so you can strengthen and improve your ability to critically think and evaluate what you have heard.
Good listening allows us to demonstrate that we are paying attention to the thoughts, feelings and behaviours of the other person (seeing the world through their eyes). This is crucial to maintaining productive relationships, and sometimes the only way to establish communication.
Becoming an Attentive Listener
- Focus on the speaker. Really, really pay attention to what the speaker is saying.
- Don't interrupt.
- Listen for key messages.
- Show that you are listening.
- Do your research.
- Ask smart questions.
- Be prepared.
Strange noise while calling - If you are hearing strange background noises while calling, then it is possible that some are listening in on your calls with a monitoring tool. It is one of the signs your phone is hacked.

Usually, someone can tap your phone by either using an Android or iPhone spy app or a hacking device. Many phone call and text message spy apps include the feature to record and listen in on live calls. However, utilizing these specific features is illegal.

Cell phone tapping can utilize your cell phone as a listening device. A person miles away can hear your conversations even when you aren't on the phone and the phone is nearby. Check your phone bill regularly for clues as to whether someone has tapped your iPhone. You may notice unexplained charges for text messages.
There might not be an FBI agent in your phone — they need a search warrant for that, for the record. You can simply block the view of you from your camera with tape or specially made stickers for your phone which you can find on Amazon. Taping your phone's front facing camera is an exercise in precaution.
