XLSX has a basic difference in their existence; XLS is the default version of Microsoft Excel 2003, and XLSX is the file format of Excel since 2007. XLS files are larger than XLSX files. XLS is a proprietary binary format, whereas XLSX is based on Microsoft Office Open XML format.
WPS OfficeAndroid users can get this application from Google Play store and easily access their XLS/XLSX file without an Excel application, on your Android phones. Personally, I also use this WPS Office on my phone. I found this tool works very smoothly for opening and editing any of my XLS or XLXS files.
Steps to Open XLS files on Android running Smartphone or Tablet
- Visit the 'Google Play Store'.
- Search 'Microsoft Excel' from the opened Play Store app.
- Click upon the 'Install' button to download and install the Excel application straight into the android running device.
- The application is free to download.
To get started, kindly perform the following steps:
- Open File Explorer.
- Go to the View Tab.
- Tick File name extensions under Show/Hide.
- Go to the folder where you Excel file is stored.
- Right-click on the Excel File.
- Select Rename.
- Rename ". XLSX" to ". XLS".
- Click Enter once done.

Microsoft Excel Online is the free version of Excel that works in your browser. You can use all of Excel Online's features for free, as long as you don't have more than 5GB of files in OneDrive, Microsoft's online file storage.
First, select all the cells you want to edit. You can drag an area with your mouse, hold down SHIFT and click in two cells to select all the ones between them, or hold down CTRL and click to add individual cells. Then type in your selected text.
