What's the difference between a Nintendo Network ID and a Nintendo Account? The short answer is that an NNID is used to make purchases on the Wii U and 3DS, while a Nintendo Account is used to make purchases on the Switch. Those points can be redeemed for rewards that can be used across all your Nintendo devices.
Here's how to set up your Nintendo ID account on your Nintendo Switch:
- Head to the System Settings > User.
- Go into your Avatar.
- Go all the way down to “Linked Nintendo Account†at the bottom.
- Choose how you want to connect your account.
- Enter all your details.
- Check you're all set for the Nintendo eShop.
Click Forgot your password? Enter your Nintendo Network ID and the E-Mail Address associated your account into the appropriate fields. If you have not confirmed your e-mail address, you will be prompted to do that before a temporary password can be sent.
The Nintendo Network ID (username) and country cannot be changed once the account is created. The only way to change this information is to create a new Nintendo Network ID. You do not need to delete the current Nintendo Network ID to create a new one on your system.

- Create a Mii character, or select one that has already been created.

Nintendo Network ID is a unique identifier made up of 6 to 16 characters that allows you to access certain Nintendo Network services. In order to create a Nintendo Network ID, you'll need a Wii U console or Nintendo 3DS system and an email address.

How can I create a child account?
- Sign in to your Nintendo Account.
- Select "Family Group", then "Add member", followed by "Create a child account".
- Next, enter information for the child who will use the account.
- After confirming the content, select OK.
