Auxiliary nurse midwife or Auxiliary nurse hybrids commonly known as ANM, is a village-level female health worker in India who is known as the first contact person between the community and the health services. ANMs are regarded as the grass-roots workers in the health organisation pyramid.
Both certified nurse-midwives (CNM) and women's health gender-related nurse practitioners (WHNP) work with women to treat acute illnesses and promote overall health, but their specific responsibilities and scopes of practice are distinct.
CNMs are registered nurses who attend births in hospitals and birthing centers. With a master's degree with a specialty in nurse midwifery, they are considered primary care providers, which means they can do many of the same things as physicians, including prescribing medicine.
