The winters in Ooty are colder than rest of the south India. The best time to visit this beautiful hill station is from October to June. In these months, the temperature remains somewhere around 25°C which offers a pleasant weather. It is the best time for traveling and sightseeing.
Travellers from Bengaluru can take the Masinagudi route while those descending from Ooty have to go via Gudalur, " said Tamil Nadu police official. However, even Gudalur Road is not that safe for tourists as a visible trend of overtaking is seen, which can lead to fatal accidents.

Udhagamandalam railway station
Approximately 88 kilometres away, Coimbatore is the nearest domestic airport from Ooty which is well-connected with most of the Indian cities. There are regular flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai connecting Bangalore and Coimbatore. Once you reach the airport, you can take a taxi or bus from there to reach Ooty.
Any place that is in ooty or nearby ooty (within 10–15 km). Ooty has many hotels and resorts. Check the hotels in the main town like Doddabetta road, coonor road, central ooty, charing cross, around ooty station etc. Doddabetta is also a good place with a beautiful view, you can stay there also.
Mettupalayam (40 kms) is the nearest railhead. Many trains to Ootyare available from nearby cities like Bangalore, Mysore, Coimbatore and Chennai. You can also get Nilgiri Mountain Railway (Toy Train), which connects Ooty to Coonoor and Mettupalayam and takes you uphill through the curves to Ooty.
The distance between Bangalore and Ooty is 270 km and it would take around 6 hours 40 minutes to reach Ooty by road. There is no direct train from Bangalore to Ooty. You can travel to Ooty through Mysore by boarding the Basava Express from Bangalore to Mysore and then take a cab or bus from Mysore to Ooty.
By air: Madurai International Airport is the nearest to Kodaikanal, approximately 120 km away. Regular flights of Air India, SpiceJet and Jet Airways are available from here for cities like Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore. From outside the airport, travellers can easily avail of bus or taxi services to reach Kodaikanal.
The convenient and fastest way to reach from Coimbatore to Ooty is to take Tata Indica from Coimbatore to Ooty. The cheapest way to reach Ooty from Coimbatore is to take Nilagiri Exp from Coimbatore to Mettupalayam then take a taxi from Mettupalayam to Ooty.
