Families with Zipcar memberships don't typically own two vehicles: they book one when they need an extra ride instead. And members in big cities rely on the company when they're running errands or moving from one apartment to the next. The company currently has over 800 employees and 10,000 vehicles globally.

How Zipcar Works. Zipcar is essentially a short-term car rental service. You join Zipcar for $7 per month (or $70 per year), and you gain the ability to rent a designated Zipcar whenever you want. At the designated time, you unlock the car, do your errands, and return the car to the designated location.
- Find and reserve. Find your nearest Flex car in the app – just look for the blue pins (there's thousands of them). You reserve it and we'll hold it for 15 minutes.
- Unlock and drive. Unlock the car with the Zipcar app (you'll find the keys in the glove box).
- Drop. When you're done drop your Flex car off in our Zipzone.
Affordable for Many TripsZipcar is often more affordable than its competition. Though prices vary slightly by location, a typical weekday reservation costs between $7 and $10 per hour, or between $60 and $90 per day.
Regardless of how many hours you need the car for, ZipCar allows you to drive up to 180 miles at no additional charge. Should you need to drive a longer distance, you'll need to pay 45 cents per additional mile you put on the car. In some cases, premium vehicles cost 55 cents for each mile over 180 miles.
Late Returns: $50 per hour (up to a maximum of $150), plus the extra time you used the car. Low Gas: $30 if you return a vehicle with less than 1/4 tank of gas. Vehicle Retrieval Fee: $139 flat fee if you do not return the Zipcar back to its home location by the end of your trip.
Flex is our one-way service, where you can pick up and drop cars anywhere in the Zipzone so long as it complies with our parking rules where you are ending your trip. More information can be found on parking rules here.
If you joined Zipcar after May 1, 2020 in the United States, you do not need your Zipcard to get out and drive. Download the Zipcar iPhone® or Androidâ„¢ app to book a trip, access vehicle location details, and unlock your Zipcar. If you need a Zipcard for your trip, first check that your mailing address is up to date.
If you're running late or would like more time out and about it's really easy to extend your Roundtrip reservation. For Flex there's no such thing as being late, just make sure you drop the car in our Zipzone!

You can find out for free if your vehicle is ULEZ compliant by entering your registration plate at above and getting one of our free checks. If your vehicle is ULEZ compliant, you will not have to pay a charge if you drive within the ULEZ zone.
