The pass allows free travel on buses, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground and most National Rail services in London. Pass holders also get a discounted fare on River services and the Emirates Air Line. 60+ Oyster pass holders are not entitled to free travel on services outside of London.
Get a new Oyster card and make at least one journey with it, then call 0343 222 1234 (Charges may apply). We'll arrange to transfer your credit or ticket to your new card.
If your Oyster photocard doesn't work when you touch it on a yellow card reader, it may be faulty. If there's no visible damage, call us to get a replacement. Sometimes, your Oyster photocard might not work because you have a negative pay as you go balance. To travel again, you'll need to top it up.
In England you can get a bus pass for free travel when you reach the State Pension age. If you live in London, you can travel free on buses, tubes and other transport when you're 60, but only within London. In Wales you can get a bus pass when you reach 60.
The agreement that TfL has with London Councils is that the Older Persons Freedom Pass is valid 9am to 4.30am Monday to Friday and all day on weekends and Bank Holidays.
Can you use a Freedom Pass anywhere in the UK? If your Freedom Pass has a rose on it, you can use it on bus services across England. English bus passes (including the Freedom Pass) won't work on buses in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland although you may be able to get concessionary fares.
Use your Freedom Pass between 9:30 and 23:00 on weekdays and anytime on weekends and public holidays.
Epsom to finally join Oyster Pay As You Go, travel cards and Freedom Pass not included. Epsom station will become part of the Oyster card public transport scheme on Monday (February 25). The stations added to the PAYG area were: Merstham, Redhill, Earlswood, Salfords, Horley, Gatwick Airport and Epsom.
Free older person's bus pass means you can travel free on local buses in England. The Senior Railcard is an annual savings card. London Freedom Pass gives you free or discounted travel for London residents across London transport networks, including trams, national rail, the underground, river services, and buses.
Residency. Your London home needs to be your 'sole' or 'principal' residence, which means you live there most of the time. If you work or study in London but do not live in London you are not eligible for a Freedom Pass. If you move out of London you are no longer eligible for a Freedom Pass.
If you are not using public transport frequently but instead walking or cycling to university and only using the tube occasionally, the 18+ Oyster may not be worthwhile. For example if you live within Zone 1 or 2, a weekly travelcard with the 30% discount is £23.80 saving you over £10 a week on travel.
Senior Railcard holders can also register their Railcard discount onto an Oyster card to get 1/3 off Oyster pay as you go single fares and daily caps on National Rail, London Underground and Docklands Light Railway services.
It's publicised that if you use contactless to pay for travel in London, it's the same price as using an Oyster card. Of course, if you have a railcard discount (or similar) applied to your Oyster, that will always be cheaper than contactless. Discounts cannot be applied to contactless payment cards.
Time Restrictions: Your Senior Railcard is NOT valid when travelling between two stations in the Network Railcard area of validity during morning peak time. Morning peak time restriction does NOT apply on public holidays.
