However, with recent new technologies like Amazon Alexa and AirPlay 2, the PLAY:3 will never be able to support these technologies through a software update, due to its lesser processing power to the newer speakers in the range like the Sonos One Gen 2 for £199.
Sonos is today detailing the future of its multiroom home audio strategy, which revolves around a new app and operating system called Sonos S2 that will run on many current Sonos products and be the foundation for all of the company's future devices.
Sonos S2 is the new, major system software update that is now available for the vast majority of Sonos speakers and devices. It adds new features, such as support for Dolby Atmos (for the new Sonos Arc soundbar), plus other higher resolution audio formats and room groups.
Does Sonos ever go on sale? Yes! Sonos is known for running a few sales per year when you shop their direct online store. Their major one is over Thanksgiving weekend but you'll also run across a fun other sales throughout the year.
If you don't want family and friends to control you sonos when visiting. Create a guest wifi net for them to use. They way they have no access to your sonos. Most routers allow you to create multiple wifi networks.

2.Obtain a license or permission from the owner of the copyrighted content

- Get the permission agreement in writing.
If you use, play or perform music in your business or organisation, the chances are you need a music licence. Under The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, permission is needed from the relevant copyright holders – those people who create music – in order to play or perform music in public.
If the business plays TV, it can have no more than 4 TVs, none bigger than 55 inches (diagonal screen size), and no more than one in any room (and there can't be more than 6 speakers providing the TV audio, with no more than 4 in any one room)
Generally, if you want to use a commercial song in your video, you must obtain two licenses:
- Sync (synchronization) license from the music publisher.
- Master license from the recording label.
Venues are required to have music licenses for their own usage, e.g. elevator music, background lobby music and lounge performers. However, with the exception of SESAC in the USA, these licenses do not cover private events. So you're still going to need an ASCAP and BMI license.
The cost to license a copyrighted song can vary widely. The cost for a song from a small independent artist might be less than $100, while a track by a major artist or label can run thousands of dollars. Some licenses might also charge you a percentage of revenue instead.
Rights to stream musicIn a commercial venue, using a consumer solution to stream music, such as Apple Music, Spotify, or Amazon, doesn't just go against the terms of those companies—it's illegal and can result in steep fines. But your Soundtrack subscription includes the licenses needed to play music in your business.
It's perfectly legal, though if you are planning to abuse the system (e.g. listen on repeat overnight) then I would not recommend doing so as the song will more than likely be flagged up by Spotify and possibly taken down. Streaming your own music the same amount as streaming anybody else's is fine.
On the business front, Spotify purchases a license from labels, artists, publishers, and other right holders for streaming their music on its platform. For paying royalty to the artists, the platform uses complex algorithms that finalize the royalty per stream for every artist or label.
Zoom's Acceptable Use Policy also prohibits end users from using the Zoom service to “[v]iolate or infringe any intellectual property or proprietary rights of others, including copyrights.”
Apple Music for Business is a new player in the streaming music for businesses industry. The other leading competitors include: Soundtrack Your Brand, formerly Spotify Business. This service is about $27 per month, but you get the first month free when you sign up on a trial basis.
Are streaming services good or bad for artists? It's not as easy as you think. Let's be honest: Streaming has a notoriously bad reputation among musicians of all kinds. Low payouts, lack of transparency, and shady deals with major labels while putting pressure on independent record labels.

In most cases, no. DJ's do not need any permission or licenses to play songs legally, since the club/restaurant/bar where the gig takes place are responsible for it. Also- if playing at a private event, such as a wedding, licenses are not required at all.
While there are nuances to each platform's rules, the main one to always remember is: Don't stream copyrighted material. All platforms are concerned most with the streaming/re-streaming of media. This includes movies, live sporting events, and music.
To earn revenue, music streaming services are either advertisement-supported or subscription-based. If you listen with a free account, advertisers pay the streaming service to interrupt your tunes with their ads.
Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) is also a not-for-profit organization that represents over 12 million musical works from over 750,000 artists. Membership is free for songwriters. For publishers, there's a $150 fee for individuals and $250 for companies.
Today, Apple announced a new partnership with PlayNetwork that expands the existing Apple Music service to allow businesses to play fully licensed music in their stores.
There are no monthly fees for using Sonos, other than the fee you may pay for your chosen music streaming service e.g. Spotify Premium.
There is no way in Sonos controllers to set a password, to avoid this behaviour. Other workarounds would be setting up a guest WiFi network that doesn't have access to Sonos, but this would require a new router (in som cases), or change my original password in my entire existing network, which would be annoying ;)
