2 Answers. Because he was under impression that he is using magic for same. He was using Legilimency Spell for same, the part of his soul made the connection strong , however Voldemort would have been able to access Harry's mind anyways.
There was no such situation in which Harry performed legilimency on Snape. Well, I guess if you're a good Occlumens, you have to be a good Legilimens, too. Harry wasn't trying to read Snape's mind, he just used the Shield Charm (instead of Occlumency) to defend himself, and Snape's own spell reversed onto him.
As we are told in wizarding world lore, Dumbledore is a Legilimens, which means that he can read minds (as a side note, although Queenie has the same skill, her skill is much more powerful as it can delve deeper into a person).
Legilimency is a learned skill that requires eye-contact in order to probe into someone's mind, and Occlumency is your counter-protection for it. But the connection between Harry and Voldemort was direct, which means Voldemort didn't need to use Legilimency, as he was already connected to each of his Horcruxes.
