There is not enough space in my C drive to download new programs. And I found my D drive is empty. C drive is where the operating system installed, so generally, C drive needs to be allocated with enough space and we should not install other third-party programs in it.
If you can't extend volume, like cannot extend volume in C drive, don't worry. You'll find why is the Extend Volume option greyed out on your computer: There is no unallocated space on your hard drive. There is no contiguous unallocated space or free space behind the partition you want to extend.
First, you need to open Disk Management through the Run window by pressing the Windows key + R at the same time, then enter 'diskmgmt. msc' and click 'OK'. Once Disk Management has loaded, right click on the C drive, and select the Extend Volume option to extend the C drive with the unallocated space.
As here is no unallocated space after the C partition drive, so extend volume greyed out. You need to have an “unallocated disk space” to the right of the PartitionVolume you wish to extend on the same drive. Only when “unallocated disk space” is available “extend” option is highlighted or available.
Step 1: Download NIUBI Partition Editor, right click D: drive and select "Resize/Move Volume", drag the middle towards right in the pop-up window. Then Unallocated space is moved next to C drive. Step 2: Right click C: drive and select "Resize/Move Volume" again, drag right border towards right in the pop-up window.
Method 2.Move Programs from C Drive to D Drive with Windows Settings
- Right-click Windows icon and select "Apps and Features".
- Select the program and click "Move" to continue, then select another hard drive such as D:
- Open Storage settings by typing storage at the search bar and select "Storage" to open it.
Merging C and D drive works the same way.
- Step 1: Select the target partition. Right-click on the partition which you want to add space to and keep, and select "Merge".
- Step 2: Select a neighbor partition to merge.
- Step 3: Execute operation to merge partitions.
The second solution to increase the C drive is to add disk space to C drive in Windows server 2019 with Disk Management. Disk Management is system built-in partition manage tool, you can use this function to extend, shrink, format partitions.
Solution 2.Extend C Drive Windows 10 via Disk Management
- Right-click My Computer and choose "Manage -> Storage -> Disk Management".
- Right-click on the partition that you want to extend, and choose "Extend Volume" to continue.
- Set and add more size to your target partition and click "Next" to continue.
If there is unallocated space available on the hard drive, you can extend the volume by adding into the allocated space using the “Extend Volume” feature of Windows 10, 8, 7 built-in Disk Management tool.
Right click C drive and select “Extend Volume” option. Step4. Enter the amount of space you want to add the C drive so that you can extend the C partition.
