The primary reason for this scarcity of stock is the usual culprit: the ongoing global chip shortage. The PS5 currently stands at around 8 million units sold since launch in November 2020, with Sony's goal to sell 15 million by April 2022 seeming very achievable even with the current stock issues.
Get it at GameStop for only $299.99, or $22.96 off its suggested retail price of $322.95.

The PS4 Pro represents a meatier, more powerful unit that delivers better performance capable of 4K gaming and HDR. Its other new console became known as the PS4 Slim, which offers the same functionality as the launch model in a sleeker form factor. Sony calls this the 'PS4' as it's phased out the original console.
So, no, the PS4 has not been discontinued completely, but there is only one version of the system that will be sold going forward.
The PS5 June event has come and gone, and we learned an awful lot about Sony's latest console. Like the PS4, the PS5 has the potential to be a great console — and also like the PS4, it'll probably take at least a year or two to get there.
The Sony PlayStation 5 is finally here — and although it may not be the world's fastest console, it's a significant upgrade over the PlayStation 4. With a whole new architecture, superior resolution support, and faster storage thanks to the SSD, the PS5 console is better than the PS4 in almost every way.
Originally Answered: Is it worth buying a PlayStation 2 in 2020? No don't do it. You will not able to play new games. New games can support 2019 and 2020 games and some games(which will release later) will support only PlayStation 4 and 5.
PlayStation 5 Digital EditionThe PS5 Digital Edition costs $399. Compared to the PS5, this console is $100 less and does not include a Blu-ray disc drive.
While the transition may last three years, it's likely that those three years will involve gradually winding PS4 development down, while focusing more on those exclusive PS5 titles. Truthfully, 2021 is likely the last full year where we will see the PS4 and PS4 Pro supported by Sony and third-party developers.
The simple reason why PS4 is still “expensive” is the following: A) They are Sony, thus any corporation will charge the highest amount of shackles for their product while demand is high enough.

For the best possible last-gen PlayStation experience, this is the one to buy. The PS4 Pro is an excellent gaming console for those not wanting to upgrade to the PS5, but premium 4K gaming comes with a premium price tag.
To fully enjoy the power of the PS5 you'd need a 4K TV, but the difference is only going to be visual, so it's not an essential purchase. If you feel like splashing out and you can afford then go for it, but don't feel like you need to at all.
Nothing will “happen” to it at all. It's not like when the PS5 comes out, every PS4 in every household will be thrown out and switched for the PS5. The PS4 will be usable.
While prices are better on the PS5 in terms of value for money, you'll still be able to build up a PS4 collection on the cheaper previous generation console and transition over the PS5 when availability is a bit better (or when that price drops).
The short answer is: no, games designed for PS5 will not play on PS4. Unlike Microsoft, which plans to make Xbox Series X games compatible with Xbox One, Sony's PS5 games will be designed specifically for the next-gen console, and so won't work on PS4. That's not to say there won't be cross-gen games.
Is it REALLY that smart to buy the PS5 on launch day? So the best thing to do is to wait for the launch bugs to unravel themselves and to wait for people to report on fixes for them. If you know the majority of the bugs that the console has, you can't get caught out on them when you buy your console.
Physical disc versions of PS2 and PS3 games are not backwards compatible with the PS5, though that could change with future news from Sony Interactive. However, PlayStation Now, or PS Now, works with the PS5.
You can watch along by going to the PlayStation's official YouTube channel here where the show will be broadcast live. You can also catch it on Twitch here. This is the second PS5-related event from Sony, with the last one taking place in June.
Users can pre-order the PlayStation 5 from Sony Center by logging on to the retailer's website Shopatsc.com. Sony Center offers free delivery and users can choose to pick up the console from store as well. Users will need an account to buy the PS5 from Sony Center.
Update July 6, 2021 : Amazon AU currently has stock, go! It's now July and it's still supremely difficult to buy a PS5 in Australia. The best you can do is keep trying: While stock allocations are rare they do happen, so you'll need to stay vigilant, as stock is likely to remain low for the rest of 2021.
